Abhishek slaps 10-crore defamation notice on Madan Mitra over 'murderer' jibe

Abhishek Banerjee has sent a ₹10 crore legal notice to Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra following defamatory comments made during a recent Facebook Live broadcast. The notice, served through Banerjee's legal counsel, accuses Mitra of making baseless and derogatory allegations, including labeling the Diamond Harbour MP a "criminal" and a "murderer" who hires contract killers.

The legal notice specifies that Mitra's statements during his July 19 social media stream severely damaged Banerjee's social and political standing. As part of the conditions set forth in the notice, Mitra has been given 72 hours (three days) to issue an unconditional written and video apology, in addition to paying ₹10 crore in compensation.

According to the notice, the ₹10 crore compensation will be deposited into a registered trust established to provide financial support for party leaders and activists involved in legal battles. The notice warns that if Mitra fails to fulfill these demands within the stipulated three-day period, strict civil and criminal legal proceedings will be initiated against him.

The legal action follows explosive remarks made by Madan Mitra on the eve of July 21 after aligning with the Ritabrata Trinamool faction. In his live broadcast, Mitra publicly challenged Abhishek Banerjee, claiming he would not be intimidated by political threats or pressure and alleging prior attempts on his own life.
